Ricinoleic acid is an unsaturated omega-9 fatty acid and a hydroxy acid. It is a major component of the seed oil obtained from mature Castor plant. Ricinoleic Acid can be used as a thickener for silicon grease, as a rubber activator/accelerator and in the manufacture of certain personal care products, among other applications. This product can be used as a sustainable alternative to other emollients and thickeners. 12-hydroxy stearic acid is entirely vegetable-based, and not tested on animals at any part of the manufacturing process. Its GMO-free, and contains no peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, grains, dairy, eggs, fish or gluten. It also contains no residual solvents and is REACH registered for use in the European Union. 12-hydroxystearic acid is nonreactive, nonflammable and not an explosive hazard. The hydroxyl functionality of RA makes the castor oil a natural polyol providing oxidative stability to the oil, and a relatively high shelf life compared to other oils by preventing peroxide formation. The presence of the hydroxyl group in RA and RA derivatives provides a functional group location for performing a variety of chemical reactions including halogenation, dehydration, alkoxylation, and esterification. As a result, this unique functionality allows the castor oil to be used in industrial applications such as paints, coatings, inks, and lubricants.

High Oleic Soybean
We are currently working with the United Soybean Board (USB) and several strategic industry partners to develop new line of passenger car motor oil formulations that meet or exceed ILSAC GF-6 / API SP industry standards for protection, performance and fuel economy. The Biosynthetic full synthetic motor oil formulation will deliver engine protection that comes with a premium, full synthetic motor oil. This formulation contains Biosynthetic Technologies Estolide Technology that provides excellent wear protection, superior oxidative and hydrolytic stability as well as a proprietary cleaning technology to prevent oil consumption and provide ultimate protection that helps to extend the life of the engine. For this project we have opted to use high-oleic soybean oil from soybeans grown by U.S. farmers. These motor oils will also be recognized as a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product, meeting the federally mandated purchasing initiative known as the “BioPreferred Program.”
The United Soybean Board (USB) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have supported the soy-based, drop-in, synthetic alternative to petroleum-based motor oil. The biobased alternative is well suited for high-temperature automotive and industrial applications. As of today Biosynthetic fully synthetic motor oil (ILSAC GF-5) are available in two grades: 5W20 and 5W30 is available for purchase on www.biosynthetic.com and www.amazon.com.
In addition, we are also using high oleic soybean in the development of a Food Safety Modernization Act (FMSA) compliant HX-1 hydraulic fluid. This would be the first of its kind!
And to top that, we are also working with the United Soybean Board on a food grade hydraulic fluid where we will develop a fully formulated HX-1 food grade hydraulic fluid at ISO grades of 46 and 68 utilizing a combination of High Oleic Soy Oil (HOSO), Estolides, and additives.
